Deafness, a small introduction

Hey, you! Welcome back :). Today a little piece about my hearing loss. I won't write down everything, so if you have any questions or things you want to know after reading this, you can ask me anything! I like it when people ask me questions ;). What's the case? After the meningitis I became (almost) deaf. With my left ear I'm completely deaf, and with the right one I can hear about 10-15% of what someone is saying. Unfortunately a hearing aid doesn't work, we've tried it several times, but it did not help. Probably because the damage is so deep inside of my head (the auditory-nerve), but we're not sure because they (the hospital) can't do any research on that level. That sucks a lot... The weird thing is, 'normal' people hear the low-pitched tunes good, and lose the higher-pitched ones (think of an elderly person); I can hear the high tunes way, way better. I just completely can't hear the lower tunes, which is very weird. Not that I can hear th...

A lot of people already know this story. Whether you do or you don't know it, I think it's important that this story is accessible to everyone. September 2018: the month where it all happened.  Oxford The beginning of this month couldn't be any better. We went to Oxford with school. I was 15 years old at this point; traveling with friends and kind of 'on your own' (that's what it partly felt like) was like a dream coming true.  I literally had one of the best weeks of my entire life. Besides the mandatory activities - which were all fun to do - school gave us some spare time in the city of Oxford. Being with friends, alone, in a city abroad; it was amazing. The hours we spent in the bus to travel from the one place to another, were simply the best ones.  If I knew I would've been infected with the meningococcal bact...

The Start

Hi everyone, Welcome to my blog!  I'm Terry and at the moment of writing this, I am 17 years old. My native language is Dutch -  I live in the Netherlands - so if you spot any mistakes in these posts, feel free to let me know!  You might ask yourself why I'm typing in English while it isn't my 'main' language; well, I know multiple people (friends, family) who speak English and I would love it when everybody is able to read and understand my posts.   I decided to start a Blog. Why? Because I like to share my experiences with people :). I don't have a lot of contact with friends (at least, not anymore), but I'll tell you why that is in another post, this is just the 'introduction'. But besides that, now, in the middle of this Covid-19 crisis (even less contact with people), I just feel like I need something to express myself, my feelings and my experiences. Don't think that I'm only doing this to express myself. No, I'm also doing it bec...
